Start the countdown…
Today on the Apple iPhone App Store, NetShare unceremoniously snuck it’s way in. At only $9.99, it allows you to connect another device (like, say, a laptop) to your iPhone via Wi-Fi, and share the iPhone’s EDGE or 3G internet connection. Or, in geek terms, it allows tethering without having to Jailbreak your iPhone.
AT&T hates this sort of thing, so I can only imagine that they’ll cry foul and it’ll get pulled faster than an electric chair’s switch in Texas. You would think AT&T wouldn’t mind, since they basically make $1,310 per megabyte on SMS messages which should more than make up the bandwidth costs for a few people using a (gasp) COMPUTER on their precious cellular network.
I love my iPhone, but AT&T kind of sucks. It’ll be kind of nice one the exclusivity deal ends and you’re free to choose a carrier. I’d probably go with Alltel or T-Mobile, since they seem to get much better signal than AT&T where I live.
edit – FIVE MINUTES LATER… Wow, that was quick. It already appears to have been pulled. MacRumors reports that those trying to buy it now are being met with “This item is no longer available.”
